The Hawkwell Community shed officially launched on the 18th of July. Shedders welcomed visitors to see their handy work which included making the work benches and lining the container the shed operates out of themselves and installation of the electrics.
The ESN Coordinator said a few words, congratulated the Hawkwell Shedders on the work they had done to date and wished them all the very best and success in the future.
They have their first commission of planters for a nearby railway station and are also scheduled to work with ’Volunteer it Yourself’ to co build a socialising area on the side of the Shed.
The shed is in a container based at Potash Garden Centre and is open to both men and women over 18. If you are interested please contact Richard Iles on 07540724275.
On Tuesday 17th April the Essex Shed Network held an information event for potential shedders at Potash Garden Centre in Hawkwell. There was a presentation by the Essex Shed Network Co-ordinator about what the ESN is and the work that it carries out across Essex. The meeting gave a chance for men to meet one another and find out a bit more about the future plans for the Hawkwell shed, the site and to have any of their questions answered.
The presentation was enjoyed with complementary coffee and cake and there was the opportunity for potential shedders to mingle and to find out more. Victoria from Rayleigh and Rochford Voluntary Service was present and gave a short talk on her experience of sheds and what they can bring to the men who create and take part in projects.
The day was a success as over 10 shedders signing up to help with the prepping days in the following weeks. There was the chance to have a look at the container on site and to get a feel for the type of work they could take part in. If you would like to be involved please contact Rich on 07540 724275.
On Tuesday 13th March the Essex Shed Network made a visit to the Hawkwell Baptist Church Shed site at Potash garden Centre.
During our visit we managed to have a look around the site, see the container and work out how much space there would be outside the Shed after the Shedders had finished clearing the area.
The new site is conveniently set up right next to the Potash Garden Centre with a complementary café which is likely to be visited by the new shedders on a regular basis, to share a coffee and to discuss the future of the shed.
There will an information meeting held at Potash Garden Centre in Hawkwell on Tuesday 17th April which will present the chance for potential shedders to find out more about what the shed has to offer. There will be information and a chance to talk to Shedders from other locations plus lunch is provided as the event is from 11am – 2pm.
