Whether you are an organisation or private individual, the Essex Shed Network exists to support you in your Men’s Shed project. The team are available to provide advice and guidance on every aspect of starting or running a Shed, based on our own experiences of setting up Sheds over the last 8 years. So please do get in touch with us in the first instance via the contact form at the bottom of the page.

Also, we have collated links to helpful resources below which are worth looking through, especially for established organisations looking to start a Men’s Shed project. Some of this could be overwhelming if you are a private individual interested in starting a Shed in your community. The best place to start in this instance is by considering two key factors:

Demand – it takes a fair amount of effort (not to mention funding) to get a Shed up and running, so you want to be sure there is an interest within your locality for a Men’s Shed before embarking on a project.

Premises/location – finding a suitable building or piece of land for your Shed can be challenging, but it’s always surprising to learn what’s available if you make connections and network with the right people (parish or district councils, local charities or hospices etc).

If you have the demand and perhaps some potential opportunities for a premises or location, then we can help guide you through everything else step by step.

Not your average bird boxes! The members of North Colchester Men's Shed are showing off the special Swift nesting boxes which they made for Dedham Vale AONB (further to a grant from Suffolk CC).The Shed crafted 100 of these boxes as part of the effort to help Swifts, which migrate 3000 miles from Africa to the UK every year, but whose natural habitat is disappearing and causing them to be classified an endangered species.Great work gentlemen!
